Retriever Volleyball Falls to Western Michigan, Northeastern in Final Day of Seton Hall Invitational

    SOUTH ORANGE, N.J.—The UMBC volleyball team suffered two defeats in the final day of the Seton Hall Invitational, falling to Western Michigan, 3-0, and Northeastern, 3-0, Saturday.

     

    In the first match, senior Sabrina Hoeks (Olympia, Wash./AG West Black Hills) led the Retrievers and was named to the All-Tournament team with 14 kills and 11 digs, but it was not enough as Western Michigan defeated UMBC, 25-19, 25-20 and 25-16.

     

    Freshman Hallie Carter (Huntington Beach, Calif./Edison) had a UMBC season-high 21 digs, while fellow freshman Mallory McIntyre (Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada/St. Mary’s Academy) had a season-high 29 assists.

     

    The Broncos outhit the Retrievers .173 to .083 and had eight blocks to UMBC’s three.

     

    In the second match, Northeastern’s Britney Brown was two digs shy of a triple-double as the Huskies defeated UMBC, 25-18, 27-25 and 25-12.

     

    Hoeks recorded her third double-double of the tournament with 12 kills and 10 digs, while Carter had a game-high 18 digs.

     

    The Retrievers return to action Tuesday at Georgetown at 7 p.m.
