TOWSON BLANKS UMBC; CAPTURES UMBC VOLLEYBALL INVITATIONAL

    Freshman middle blocker Liz Goubeaux recorded a match-high 14 kills (.824 hitting percenatge), leading the Towson Tigers to a 30-15, 30-21, 30-28 victory against UMBC, in the final match of the Retriever Invitational at UMBC RAC Arena on Saturday afternoon. The victory game the Tigers the tournament championship. Towson (9-0) came out firing in the opening game, hitting .429 from the floor. Goubeaux recorded 6 kills and freshman Sarah Miller added five put aways. The Tigers reversed a 20-18 deficit in game two as Goubeaux added another 6 kills, while Tournament Most Valuable Player sophomore Jordann Tomasek added five kills. Freshman Sarah Miller led the Tigers with 5 kills in the final game. Towson hit .315 for the match and held UMBC (5-5) to a .124 percentage. The Retrievers, who have now dropped five straight matches, were led by senior Dana Cookson and freshman Julia Waclawiak, who each recorded 8 kills. Miller finished with 13 kills and Tomasek added 11 kills. Senior setter Andrea LaBlanc added a match-high 47 assists for the Tigers. The Tigers defeated VCU, 30-10, 30-23, 30-23 in their first match of the day on Saturday.
