Baltimore, MD - - -Freshman outside hitter April Hoffman (Millard North/Omaha, Nebraska) recorded a team-high 18 kills and 16 digs to lead the Towson Tigers (13-4) to a 30-21, 30-21, 20-30, 30-18, victory over the UMBC Retrievers (8-7), Wednesday evening at the UMBC RAC Arena.

The Tigers hit .375 for the match and dominated the Retrievers (.279 hitting percentage) in the serving game.  Towson recorded 15 aces compared to just four by UMBC, and the Retrievers committed 14 service errors against just 6 by the Tigers.

Towson won the first two games easily, hitting .500 in game one and .297 in game two.  The Retrievers forced another game by hitting .500 in game three behind eight kills by freshman outside hitter Christine Skala (Hinsdale South/Hinsdale, Illinois).  However, the Tigers dominated game four. hitting .382 compared to UMBC’s .171 mark.

Tigers’ sophomore Melissa Waybrant (Gettysburg Area/Gettysburgh, PA) added 13 kills and junior libero Lisa Weir (Montgomery Blair/Silver Spring, Maryland) added a match-high 13 digs.

UMBC was led by Skala, who recorded a match-high 19 digs.  Senior setter Heather Hollidge  (Elizabeth Seton/Lanham, Maryland) added a match-high 35 assists.
