Julia Waclawiak was named Retriever Invitat

UMBC (6-3) captured first place in the tournament by defeating UMES (6-3), 30-15, 30-27, 30-19. The Retrievers hit .409 in the match and recorded 15 service aces. Senior middle hitter Jennifer Davis, Waclawiak and freshman outside hitter Christine Skala each recorded 9 kills in the match. Carbo added a match-high 9 digs and freshman Megan Gross added a match-high 18 assists. Earlier in the day, UMBC (5-3) recorded 23 service aces and cruised to a 30-14, 30-14, 30-10 victory over Coppin State (1-11). The Retrievers held the Eagles to a -.038 hitting percentage and hit .247 in the match. Freshman outside hitter recorded a match-high 11 kills (.368 hitting percentage) and sophomore libero Jackie Carbo recorded a match-high 18 digs. Sophomore outside hitter Julia Waclawiak added a match-high 7 aces and 12 digs, while classmate Tauna Woolery served 5 aces. Freshman outside hitter Shauniece Steward led the Eagles with 16 digs and 5 kills.
