Volleyball Opens Three-Match Homestand Against Hartford Friday

BALTIMORE—The UMBC volleyball team opens its final homestand of the season Friday night when it plays host to Hartford at 7 p.m. at the RAC. If you cannot make it to the RAC, the match will be broadcast live at www.umbcretrievers.tv.

 

LAST TIME OUT: The Retrievers (12-9, 4-2 America East) split a pair of matches with Stony Brook last weekend, wining 3-0 in Baltimore on Friday, before falling 3-0 Sunday at the Seawolves. In the win on Friday, sophomore Iman Kennedy hit .571 with nine kills, while senior Kira Giles and sophomore Allie Spaay each earned double-doubles. On Sunday, senior Ashley Oscars led the Retrievers with her team-high seventh double-double of the year, hitting 12 kills while earning 11 digs.

 

SCOUTING THE COMPETITION: Hartford (7-16, 0-5) snapped a nine-match losing streak on Oct. 21 when they defeated Providence, 3-1. The Hawks are led by Erin Macro, who averages 3.22 kills per set and Danielle Etta, who earns 4.20 digs per set. Lindsay Ford directs the offense, averaging 9.01 assists per set.

 

UMBC leads the all-time series 14-1, including a 3-1 win on Oct. 4 in West Hartford, Conn., and have won 11 straight. After the Hawks won the first set, 27-25, the Retrievers hit no less than .333 on their way to winning the next three sets, 25-19, 25-19 and 25-15. Alyssa Lang, Ashley Ocsars and Allie Spaay each earned double-doubles.
