UMBC Takes on Stony Brook in Home-and-Home This Weekend

BALTIMORE—The UMBC volleyball team faces off against America East foe Stony Brook in a home-and-home series this weekend. The two teams begin in Baltimore Friday to play at the RAC at 7 p.m. before squaring off in Stony Brook, N.Y. on Sunday at 2 p.m. If you cannot make it to the RAC Friday night, the game will be broadcast live at www.umbcretrievers.tv.
LAST TIME OUT: The Retrievers (11-8, 3-1 America East) split a pair of matches last weekend, defeating Binghamton, 3-2, on Friday before falling to Albany on Sunday, 3-0. The win over the Bearcats was only the second time in 14 matchups the Retrievers had prevailed, with the other time coming in the 2006 America East semifinal. Alyssa Lang had a game-high 20 kills, while Ashley Oscars, Allis Spaay and Kira Giles all recorded double-doubles.
SCOUTING THE COMPETITION: Stony Brook comes to Baltimore at a record of 10-10 and 2-2 in America East play after dropping a 3-0 decision at Binghamton on Sunday afternoon. Harmonie Calinda leads the Seawolves, averaging 4.03 kills per set, while Jeanette Gibbs leads the team with 4.25 digs per set. UMBC leads the all-time series 7-6 after sweeping the two matches last year, 3-0 and 3-0.
