UMBC Volleyball Hosts New Hampshire Friday Night

BCBALTIMORE.—The UMBC volleyball team opens its 2009 home America East schedule Friday night when it plays host to New Hampshire at 7 p.m. at the RAC. If you cannot make it to the game, the match will be broadcast live on www.umbcretrievers.tv.
LAST TIME OUT: The Retrievers (9-7, 1-0 AEC) defeated Hartford, 3-1, on Sunday in their 2009 conference opener. Freshman Naomi Bush hit .476 with 10 kills and no errors, while senior Ashley Oscars and sophomores Alyssa Lang and Allie Spaay each earned double-doubles.
SCOUTING THE COMPETITION: UNH (8-11, 0-2) comes to Baltimore after dropping its first two America East contests, 3-1 to Binghamton and 3-0 to Albany, last weekend. Kirsten Bates leads the Wildcats, averaging 3.27 kills per set, while Sara Heldman leads the team with 4.54 digs per set. Kate Uitti directs the Wildcat offense with 545 assists on the year.
The all-time series is tied at 6-6 after the Retrievers swept both meetings last season. UMBC won in Baltimore, 3-0, before emerging victorious, 3-1, in Durham, N.H.

Senior Ashley Oscars is climbing the charts of two all-time career lists at UMBC, kills and attacks, while fellow senior Kira Giles is in the top-10 in career assists and assisted blocks. Senior Pam Jarrett is ninth in career digs and became the ninth player in school history to record 1,000 digs in the 3-0 victory over Princeton.
