UMBC were able to limit the Dukes to a .045 hitting percentage in the first set, while hitting 12 kills against only three errors and took the first set, 25-16. In the second, the Retrievers used 14 kills to win the second, 25-23, but the Dukes came back in the third, hitting .455 and winning 25-16. In the fourth, the Dukes hit more kills, 15-8, but the Retrievers came away with the victory, 25-21. “It was a great team effort tonight,” head coach Ian Blanchard said. “We had good contributions from everyone. We had to use a hybrid lineup tonight, but I thought we adjusted well.” The Retrievers were not a full strength tonight, with two starters, senior Ashley Oscars ( Sophomore Iman Kennedy (Charlotte, N.C./Independence) led the Retrievers, hitting .471 with nine kills against only one error, while junior Sabrina Hoeks ( Sophomore Alyssa Lang ( Kelly Turner turned in a game-high 17 kills for the Dukes. The Retrievers take the weekend off before returning to action next Tuesday when they take on cross-town rival
