Ali Loynachan Named America East Volleyball Rookie of the Week

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.—UMBC volleyball freshman Ali Loynachan (Whitby, Ontario, Canada/Sinclair) has been named America East Rookie of the Week for the week ending Sept. 6, the conference announced Tuesday. This is first conference honor and is the second Retriever recipient to earn the award this year. Fellow freshman Naomi Bush (Fruitport, Mich./Fruitport) won the award last week.
The freshman was second on the Retrievers last week in hitting percentage (.240), kills (36) and digs (39), and finished ninth in the conference for the week in kills (2.77 ps) and tied for 10th in digs (3.00 ps). Loynachan tallied two double-doubles in the final day of the Villanova Classic on Saturday against George Washington and Princeton to earn All-Tournament honors. Against the Colonials, she earned 13 kills and 10 digs, while in the win over the Tigers, she hit .345 with 11 kills and only one error and added 12 digs.
