Retriever Volleyball Competes in Villanova Tournament This Weekend

BALTIMORE.—The UMBC volleyball team travels to Villanova Pa. this weekend to take part in the Villanova Tournament. The Retrievers will face the host Wildcats Friday at 7 p.m., while on Saturday, they take on George Washington at 1 p.m. and Princeton at 5 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT: The Retrievers (2-4) fell to George Mason in three sets on Wednesday night at the RAC Arena. Senior Ashley Oscars led UMBC with 11 kills, while junior Sabrina Hoeks added four service aces.
SCOUTING THE COMPETITION: Villanova (5-2) comes into the weekend on the heels of two straight defeats at the hands of Temple and Penn in the Big 5 Tournament last weekend. Morgan Petkovich leads the Wildcats, averaging 4.31 kills per set. Villanova leads the all-time series with UMBC 12-3 and have won four straight, including a 3-0 victory last season.
After winnings its first three matches, George Washington (3-3) dropped three straight at the Minnesota Diet Coke Classic to Minnesota, Iowa State and Auburn. Leah Hill leads the Colonels, averaging 3.68 kills per set. Last year, UMBC defeated GW for the first time in 18 previous meetings.
Princeton (1-3) defeated Seton Hall Wednesday night for their first win of the season. Sheena Donohue leads the Tigers with 3.27 kills per set. UMBC leads the all-time series with Princeton, 4-1, with the last matchup taking place in 1991.
