Ali Loynachan Signs National Letter of Intent to Play Volleyball at UMBC
11/18/2008
BALTIMORE—UMBC volleyball head coach Ian Blanchard announced recently that Ali Loynachan has signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Retrievers for the 2009 season.
Loynachan, a right-side hitter from Whitby, Ontario, Canada, led her high school team, Sinclair, to the OFSSA Quad A Championship in 2008. Loynachan was selected to Canadian Women’s Youth National Program in 2007 and was the starting right-side hitter for Team Ontario in the Under-18 National Team Challenge Cup. In addition, the 6-foot left-hander led her club team Durham Attack Black to Under-16 National East and Provincial Championships.
“Ali is a very athletic young woman and brings a high level of experience to our team,” said Blanchard. “In her province, she’s been playing above her age level for the past four years, which speaks volumes about how solid of a volleyball player she is. She is very strong all-around. She can set, she can hit and she swing from the left side and the right side. In addition, she's a really enthusiastic, high-energy athlete and I think she's going to compliment our program really well.”
