BALTIMORE—The UMBC volleyball team dropped their second straight and snapped a 10-match home winning streak as they fell to Binghamton, 3-0 (27-30, 25-30, 21-30), on Sunday at the RAC Arena.

The Retrievers (19-7, 4-3 America East) hit just .075 from the floor, while the Bearcats (13-14, 5-2 America East) posted a hitting percentage of .215.

Sophomore Kira Giles (Glenlawn, Winnipeg, Manitoba) tallied a double-double for her fifth match in a row as she put up 36 assists and 13 digs, while also adding three assisted blocks.

Sophomore Pam Jarrett (Lincoln, Neb./Lincoln Pius X) saw action in her first match since Sept. 25, recording a team-high 14 digs and four service aces.

Freshman Sabrina Hoeks (Olympia, Wash./AG West Black Hills) also tallied a double-double, with 10 kills and 13 digs, while freshman Bridget Scheetz (St. Louis, Mo./Ursuline Academy) added six assisted blocks to bring her season total to 85, and move into third place on the Retrievers’ all-time single season chart for assisted blocks.

Lindsay Mueller led the Bearcats, posting a double-double with 43 assists and 13 digs, while also adding four assisted blocks.

The Retrievers played the Bearcats close in the opening set, but a 5-0 run sparked by a Jacki Kane kill gave the Bearcats a 17-12 lead on their way to the 30-27 set victory.

UMBC took the early, 6-4, lead in game two thanks to a four-point run of their own, with three points served by Jarrett.  The Bearcats countered with three consecutive points, however, to take the 7-6 lead and wouldn’t relinquish that lead for the rest of the set as they coasted to a 30-25 win.

The Retrievers held a lead over the Bearcats in game three, but a kill by Kathleen Schauer knotted the score at 13 points, and the Bearcats gained three more points behind Schauer’s serve for a 16-13 lead that they increased to the 30-21 set and match point.

The Retrievers will next embark on a four-match road trip, beginning with a match at New Hampshire on Friday, Oct. 26, before returning home for their final two matches of the regular season on Friday, Nov. 9 and Sunday, Nov. 11.
