UMBC Volleyball Freshman Sabrina Hoeks Named America East Rookie of the Week

Freshman Sabrina Hoeks was named the conference Rookie of the Week after recording her first collegiate double-double last weekend.

BOSTON—Freshman Sabrina Hoeks (Olympia, Wash./AG West Black Hills) became the fourth Retriever to earn a weekly conference award, as she was named the America East Rookie of the Week for the week ending Sept. 30, the conference announced Monday.

 

Hoeks recorded her first double-double of her collegiate career in the Retrievers’ 3-1 win over New Hampshire on Sunday, totaling 17 kills and 13 digs.  The rookie also added five block assists and five service aces while committing just one error on 40 attacks (.400 hitting percentage). 

 

Hoeks finished the week second in the conference in service aces with eight in 11 games. Over the weekend, she averaged 4.00 kills per game, 1.00 aces per game, 3.20 digs per game, and 5.50 points per game while hitting at .327 in both conference matches.

 

Previous Retriever weekly award winners include sophomores Kira Giles and Ashley Oscars, who were named Player of the Week and Setter of the Week, respectively and freshman Bridget Scheetz, who garnered the conference’s first Rookie of the Week award for the season.

 

Senior middle blocker Jacki Kane earned Player of the Week honors for Binghamton, while freshman setter Brooke Stanley took Setter of the Week for Albany.
