Sophomore Ashley Oscars led the Retrievers in the loss to Delaware with 12 kills and nine digs.

NEWARK, Del.The UMBC volleyball team snapped a three-match winning streak as they fell to Delaware, 3-0, on Tuesday night at Viera Court.

The loss marks only the second time the Retrievers (12-4) have failed to win a set this season, as they were defeated, 3-0, by #21 Dayton at the Towson Tournament a few weeks back.

Sophomore Ashley Oscars (Bakersfield, Calif./Liberty) led the Retrievers in the loss, coming just one dig shy of a double-double with 12 kills, nine digs, as well as two service aces and one assisted block.

Kelly Gibson led the Blue Hens (16-2), recording a double-double with 16 kills and 11 digs.

The Retrievers played the Blue Hens close in the first set, tying the game at 22 points apiece thanks to a Blue Hen error, but an 8-1 run in favor of Delaware that saw four Retriever errors gave the Blue Hens the 30-23 win.

UMBC led 7-6 in the first set, but couldn’t hold off the efficiency of the Blue Hens, posting just a .184 hitting percentage to Delaware’s .426 as they fell 30-18.

Game three saw the Retrievers come within one of the Blue Hens at 25-24 thanks to a four-point run behind sophomore Pam Jarrett (Lincoln, Neb./Lincoln Pius X), but after a Delaware timeout, the Blue Hens pulled away as Colleen Walsh served out the final four points for the 30-24 match point.

The Retrievers return to the RAC Arena on the Thursday in the first of their four-match homestand, as they take on St. Francis (Pa.) at 7:30 p.m.
