Poll
Men's Soccer was picked third in the America East preseason poll. How do you think they will fare in 2010?
They will exceed expectations and capture a regular season and/or tournament title.
Meet expectations; earn a playoff spot, but not have the juice to win a championship.
The league could "stand on its head" again this year, but the lower ranked teams rising above the preseason favorites. Retrievers might be in danger of having the bubble burst.

Sophomore Ashley Oscars earned her first weekly award of the 2007 season after garnering the 2006 Rookie of the Year accolade.

BOSTON—Sophomore Ashley Oscars (Bakersfield, Calif./Liberty) has been named the America East Conference Player of the Week while sophomore Kira Giles (Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada/Glenlawn) garners Setter of the Week honors for the week ending Sept. 23, the conference announced Tuesday.

The award marks Oscars’ first of the 2007 season, after tying teammate Sarah Ball’s record for most Rookie of the Week accolades in 2006, receiving the honor on seven occasions and being named the 2006 Rookie of the Year.

Oscars led the Retrievers with 29 kills, 13 digs, four total blocks, and 33.5 points as they notched a double-win against Fairleigh Dickinsonn and Morgan State in a tri-match on Saturday.  Oscars’ 19 kills on 60 attacks, 20.5 points, and 11 digs against Morgan State were all season-highs, with 60 attacks ranking as the second-highest in her career.  Oscars averaged 4.00 kills per game and 4.69 points per game for the Retrievers’ matches last week, which also included a 3-0 win over Coppin State.

Giles recorded her fifth double-double of the season in the Retrievers tri-match, tallying a season-high 52 assists and adding 15 digs in the match against Morgan State.  She also added a season-high three service aces against the Bears, and posted season-highs of five kills, a .667 hitting percentage, and 10.0 points against Fairleigh Dickinson.

Giles averaged 12.43 assists per game, 0.71 aces per game, 3.43 digs per game, 0.86 blocks per game, and 2.36 points per game during the Retrievers' weekend matches.

Oscars and Giles are the second and third Retrievers to earn a conference weekly award after freshman Bridget Scheetz (St. Louis, Mo./Ursuline Academy) nabbed the season’s first Rookie of the Week accolade on Sept. 4.
