BOSTON—Sophomore Ashley Oscars (Bakersfield, Calif./Liberty) has been named the America East Conference Player of the Week while sophomore Kira Giles (Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada/Glenlawn) garners Setter of the Week honors for the week ending Sept. 23, the conference announced Tuesday. The award marks Oscars’ first of the 2007 season, after tying teammate Sarah Ball’s record for most Rookie of the Week accolades in 2006, receiving the honor on seven occasions and being named the 2006 Rookie of the Year. Oscars led the Retrievers with 29 kills, 13 digs, four total blocks, and 33.5 points as they notched a double-win against Fairleigh Dickinsonn and Giles recorded her fifth double-double of the season in the Retrievers tri-match, tallying a season-high 52 assists and adding 15 digs in the match against Giles averaged 12.43 assists per game, 0.71 aces per game, 3.43 digs per game, 0.86 blocks per game, and 2.36 points per game during the Retrievers' weekend matches.
