The Retrievers (7-1) downed the Bobcats (1-6) and Broncs (1-7) in straight sets after handing the Providence Friars a 3-1 loss on Friday to record a perfect, 3-0, record at the tournament this weekend.
Freshman Sabrina Hoeks (Olympia, Wash./AG West Black Hills) led the Retrievers on the day, tallying a total of 14 kills, 12 digs, and a hitting percentage of .414 in two matches.
Freshman Bridget Scheetz (St. Louis, Mo./Ursuline Academy) also had a big day for the Retrievers, recording 17 kills, three digs and .378 hitting percentage in the day's two matches.
With the 59 assists from Saturday's games, sophomore Kira Giles (Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canda/Glenlawn) moves into seventh place on the all-time career assists chart with 1,163, surpassing former Retriever Tracey Cullins who previously ranked seventh with 1,153.
The Retrievers easily handled the Bobcats in Game 1 of the day's first match jumping to a 5-1 lead and never relinquising that lead for the 30-23 set point.
Game 2 saw the Retrievers at a 4-0 deficit, but after a few kills and a four-point stretch behind junior Angela Anderson (Hermosa, Beach, Calif./Bishop Montgomery) the Retrievers gained the 7-6 lead. A few points later, a Scheetz kill sparked a seven-point run, behind Scheetz's serve, to put the Retrievers up, 19-8. Anderson gave the Retrievers the win with a service ace and two Bobcat errors for the 30-13 win.
The third set saw a seven-point run behind sophomore Sarah Fillmore (Gaithersburg, Md./Gaithersburg), which included four Fillmore service aces as the Retrievers won the set and match point, 30-21.
The Retrievers claimed the first point in the second match against the Broncs, downing them 30-23, but Rider forced the second set to extra points yet the Retrievers pulled out the 32-30 win for a 2-0 lead in the match. The third and final game saw a six-point run started by an Ashley Oscars (Bakersfield, Calif./Liberty) kill, behind Oscars' serve as the Retrievers defeated the Broncs 30-14 for their second match win of the day.
The Retrievers return to the RAC Arena on Tuesday night for a 7:00 p.m. matchup against the Howard Bisons.
