Retriever Volleyball Remains Undefeated at La Salle Tournament, Blanks Lafayette, St. Peter's

    Sophomore Pam Jarrett recorded 37 digs in the Retrievers' two final matches on Saturday at the La Salle Tournament.

    BALTIMORE--The UMBC women's volleyball team remains undefeated for the 2007 campaign, after notching two more three-set victories against St. Peter's and Lafayette at the La Salle Tournament on Saturday in Philadelphia, Pa.

    The Retrievers (4-0) blanked both the Peahens and the Leopards, 3-0, on Saturday, amassing a total winning margin of 12-0 for the weekend tournament after shutting out both Loyola and host La Salle on Friday.

    Freshman Bridget Scheetz (St. Louis, Mo./Ursuline Academy) shined once again for the Retrievers, posting a hitting percentage of .500 for each of Saturday's matches, while recording a total of 18 kills, 27 points, 11 total blocks (10 assisted), and just two errors in the day's action.

    The Retrievers downed Lafayette, 30-22, 30-11, 30-18 in the first match of the day, which included an 11-0 run during the second set, behind the serving of sophomore Ashley Oscars (Bakersfield, Calif./Liberty).

    Oscars tallied 11 kills on 26 attacks for a .423 hitting percentage, while adding seven digs, one block assist, and accounting for 15.5 points during the match.

    Scheetz recorded seven kills on 14 assists for a .500 hitting percentage during the match, and also added a team-high four total blocks, which included one solo block and sophomore Pam Jarrett (Lincoln, Neb./Lincoln Pius X) contributed 23 digs.

    The story was much the same in the Retrievers' second match of the day, as they defeated St. Peter's, 3-0, with scores of 30-17, 30-20, and 30-11.

    Scheetz and freshman Sabrina Hoeks (Olympia, Wash./AG West Black Hills) each recorded double-digit kills, with 11 and 10, respectively. Hoeks added seven digs, while Scheetz added seven block assists.

    Jarrett and senior Britney Hodson (S. Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) also each contribued double-digit digs, with 14 apiece.

    The Retrievers will open their 2007 home campaign on Tuesday, Sept. 4 as they host George Washington at 7:00 p.m. in the RAC Arena.
