UMBC Volleyball Blanks Loyola, La Salle in Season-Opener

PHILADELPHIA
Freshman Bridget Scheetz (St. Louis, Mo./Ursuline Academy) led the Retrievers (2-0) in her first collegiate outing, recording a .389 hitting percentage in the 3-0 victory over Loyola (3-2) and a total of 11 kills, one dig, and one assisted block.
Sophomore Ashley Oscars (Bakersfield, Calif./Liberty) contributed 10 kills, five digs, and one block assist as the Retrievers downed the Greyhound with set scores of 30-22, 30-23, and 30-21.
The Retriever newcomers continued to shine in the second match against La Salle, as the Retrievers defeated the Explorers, 30-20, 30-26, and 30-22.
Freshman Sabrina Hoeks (Olympia, Wash./AG West Black Hills), came one kill away from a double-double, tallying nine kills and 16 digs in the three-set match, while Oscars added an additional 12 kills, four digs, and four block assists.
Scheetz contributed an additional eight block assists, the team-high, while sophomore Pam Jarrett (Lincoln, Neb./Lincoln Pius X)recorded 24 digs in the match against La Salle for a total of 40 on the first day of competition.
The Retrievers will take on St. Peter's and Lafayette in the conclusion of the La Salle Tournament on Saturday.
