Fillmore Third Retriever to be Named Rookie of the Week

Sarah Fillmore was named America East Rookie of the Week.

—UMBC freshman outside hitter Sarah Fillmore was named America East Conference Volleyball Rookie of the Week for the week ending on November 12, the conference announced yesterday.  She is the third Retriever to garner the award, with teammates Ashley Oscars and Kira Giles being previously recognized.

 

Fillmore overcame an injury to her finger, which was dislocated in the third game of the match against Maine on Friday, to lead the Retrievers to a victory over the Black Bears.  Fillmore recorded six kills in the fourth game while playing with a dislocated finger and led the team with 17 kills, 5.67 kills per game and a .262 hitting percentage.

 

On the season, Fillmore ranks third on the team with 2.86 kpg, 3.17 points per game and fifth with 160 total kills.  In the America East Conference, Fillmore is averaging 2.70 kpg for 54 total, and 3.12 ppg for a total of 62.5.

 

Albany's Shelby Goldman was named Player of the Week for the second-straight week, while Stony Brook's Kaitlyn Deutsch was named Setter of the Week for the fourth time this season to round out the weekly awards.

 

UMBC takes on Binghamton on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. in its first trip to the America East Conference Tournament, which will be held at the University of Albany in Albany, N.Y.
