Durham, N.H.—The UMBC women’s volleyball team (15-14, 7-5 AE) defeated New Hampshire (11-16, 6-6), 3-0 (30-27, 30-27, 30-13) on Sunday afternoon at Lundholm Gymnasium to claim the #3 seed in the America East Conference Tournament.  The Retrievers finish the regular season with a winning record for the first time since joining the America East Conference in 2003, with the last occurrence in the 2002 season.  This is also the first time the Retrievers will compete in the conference tournament after finishing with a 4-8 record in conference play last year.

With a win on Sunday, the Wildcats would have advanced to the tournament, while the Retrievers would have been in a tie with Stony Brook and would have advanced due to head-to-head results.

The Retrievers pulled out two, close, 30-27 wins in the first two sets, but took control of the third and final game to defeat the Wildcats, 30-13.

Sophomore outside hitter Sarah Ball led the Retrievers, recording her second double-double in as many matches this week with 11 kills and 11 digs.  Freshman and sophomore outside hitters Ashley Oscars and Angela Anderson added 10 and 13 kills, respectively, while senior libero Jennifer Wylie led the team with 25 digs.

The Wildcats were led by Kate Uitti, who recorded a double-double with 24 assists and 15 digs.

The No. 3 Retrievers will take on No. 2 Binghamton in the semi-finals of the America East Conference Tournament on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. in Albany, N.Y.
