  • Box Score

Baltimore, Md.—The UMBC women’s volleyball team (10-13, 3-4 AE) dropped a 3-0 (22-30, 29-31, 21-30) decision to the University of Albany (12-9, 5-2 AE) on Sunday afternoon in the UMBC RAC Arena.

The Retrievers led the Great Danes, 3-2 during the first set, but did not regain the lead during the remainder of the game.  Albany scored the winning point of the set on an attack error by freshman outside hitter Sarah Fillmore.

The Retrievers made a late rally in the second set, tying the Great Danes 29-29 and forcing the winning point to 31.  The rally was not enough, however, as Blair Buchanan won the set with a kill from teammate Ashley DeNeal.

The Retrievers played their best game in the third set, with a .211 hitting percentage and six errors, but could not best Albany, who had a .289 hitting percentage and five errors and won the final set 30-21.

The Retrievers hitting percentages in the first two sets were .049 and .091, with nine errors in each set, compared to the Great Danes percentages of .178 and .182,

Sophomore outside hitter Sarah Ball recorded a double-double for the Retrievers with 10 kills and 14 digs, while freshman outside hitter Ashley Oscars added 11 kills.

Three Albany players recorded double-doubles with Blair Buchanan tallying 38 assists and 13 digs, Ashley DeNeal with 14 kills and 17 digs, and Shelby Goldman with 13 kills and 15 digs.

The Retrievers continue home competition when they host conference rival Hartford on Friday, Oct. 27 at 7:00 p.m.
