The third set was a sea-saw affair featuring eight ties and five lead changes. UMBC led 20-17 late in the contest before running off ten straight points to stave off elimination and force a fourth game.

Freshman Ashley Oscars led three Retrievers' hitters in double figures with a match-high 18 kills. Ashley Hargrove and Angela Anderson each chipped in with 10 kills apiece in the losing effort. Stacey Carroll had a double-double with 46 assists and 10 digs.
Megan Hoag was one of three Bearcat players with double-doubles as she added 14 digs on the afternoon to 15 kills. Also tallying double-doubles were Ashley Meffert with a match-high 47 assists and 13 digs and Katie Robertson with a 10 kill, 11-dig performance.
