UMBC Volleyball Rolls Past Sacred Heart To Open Villanova Classic

    Jen Wylie recorded 20 digs in UMBC's win on Friday night.

    The UMBC women’s volleyball team (5-6) defeated Sacred Heart (1-6) in straight sets, 30-19, 30-24, 30-23, to open play at the Villanova Classic.  UMBC will continue play on Saturday as they take on Holy Cross and host Villanova.

     

    UMBC was led by Ashley Oscars and Sarah Ball offensively.  Ball tallied 15 kills with 14 digs while Oscars record 13 kills in the match.  Kira Giles dished out 32 assists while Jennifer Wylie handled the defense with 20 digs. 

     

    UMBC got off to a strong start with 18 kills and a .241 hitting percentage in the first set but slide down the last two, recording 12 kills in set two with a  .075 hitting percentage and 13 kills and a .106 hitting percentage in game three.  For the match UMBC had 11 service aces. 

     

    UMBC kept all Sacred Heart players out of double figures in kills with the Pioneers top offensive output seven kills by Alex Bavasi.  The Pioneers hit .102 for the match.
