UMBC Volleyball Drops Fourth Straight In 3-0 Loss To Gonzaga
The UMBC women’s volleyball team (3-4) dropped its fourth consecutive decision after opening the year with a three-game win streak, as the Retrievers lost to Gonzaga (3-5) 3-0 (30-27, 30-24, 30-27) on Friday night at the University of Washington Tournament.
UMBC continued to be plagued by service errors as the Retrievers tallied 11 service errors and have 23 in the last two matches played. The Retrievers offense hit .171 as a team led by Angela Anderson with 17 kills and freshman Ashley Oscars with 15 kills. Oscars tallied a .316 hitting percentage, recording just three errors on 38 total attacks.
UMBC was held to 3.5 blocks in the match while the Bulldogs blocked eight Retriever hits in the match. Gonzaga was led by Elaina Renius with 14 kills and Becky Jones with 10 kills. Jones also had 20 digs as part of the Bulldogs 76 total digs in the match. Gonzaga hit .240 as a team.
Kira Giles recorded a double-double for UMBC with 35 assists and 11 digs. Jennifer Wylie also had 11 digs as part of the UMBC defense.
