UMBC VOLLEYBALL FRESHMAN SARAH BALL EARNS FOURTH WEEKLY HONOR

Rookie Sarah Ball earned her fourth conference weekly honor on Monday.

Boston, Mass. – The America East Conference announced today that UMBC women’s volleyball freshman Sarah Ball (Winnipeg, Canada/Sisler) has been named AE Rookie of the Week for the week ending Oct. 2, 2005.  Ball has earned the weekly honor four times this season as the freshman outside hitter ranks among the conference leaders in kills per game and points per game. 

 

Ball tallied 4.30 kills per game in three matches last week, adding 1.60 digs per game and five total blocks for a 5.00 point per game average. The rookie outside hitter extended her double-digit kills streak to all 12 matches to open the season.                      

 

Ball opened the week with 16 kills and 17.5 points against George Washington. Ball matched that performance with 16 kills and 18.0 points at home against Binghamton. Ball finished the week with 11 kills and 14.5 points versus Maine.  Ball on the week recorded a .164 hitting percentage with 43 kills on 140 total attacks, making 20 errors. Ball also tallied four service aces on the week.

 

For the season Ball is averaging 4.02 kpg, 4.70 ppg and 2.64 dpg.  She ranks third in the conference in kills per game and second in points per game. 

 

Other weekly award winners included Maine’s Shannan Fotter as America East Player of the Week, while Shelly Seipp of Maine and Ashley Meffert of Binghamton share this week's Setter of the Week accolade
