UMBC VOLLEYBALL FALLS IN FINAL TWO MATCHES OF EMBASSY SUITES CLASSIC AT RUTGERS

Christine Skala tallied 17 digs against Temple on Saturday.

The UMBC women’s volleyball team (4-8) dropped back-to-back matches to Rutgers, 3-0 (30-19, 30-18, 30-25) and Temple, 3-1 (23-30, 30-27, 30-12, 30-27) to conclude its portion of the Embassy Suites Classic hosted by Rutgers University on Saturday.  Angela Anderson and Julia Hood led the Retrievers on Saturday with Anderson tallying 24 total kills and Hood 27 total kills in the two matches. 

 

The Retrievers in the final match of the day looked strong, taking the first set from Temple, 30-23.  The Owls, however, turned the tides on UMBC with the final three sets and tallying a team hitting percentage of .354 in the match.  Christine Demarco led the Owls with a .519 hitting percentage and 16 kills.

 

UMBC as a team hit .182, despite a .421 hitting percentage and 11 kills from Britney Hodson.  Anderson tallied 13 kills in the match and Hood finished with 15.  Christine Skala against Temple recorded 17 digs and Stacey Carroll handed out 41 assists. 

 

UMBC fell in consecutive sets for just the second time this season as Rutgers swept the Retrievers in three.  Anderson finished with 11 kills and Hood tallied 12 kills.  Seven of Hood’s 12 kills came in the third set as she went 7-for-9 in the set with a .778 hitting percentage.

 

UMBC returns to action at Coppin State on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
