TOWSON HANDS UMBC VOLLEYBAL 3-0 LOSS TUESDAY NIGHT

Jessie Folk registered 10 kills Tuesday night.

  The UMBC volleyball team (4-5) fell to local rival Towson (10-1) by a final count of 3-0 (30-17, 30-21, 30-19) on Tuesday night at RAC Arena as the Tigers won their ninth straight match while snapping a three match win streak by the Retrievers.  

 

UMBC was led by Jessie Folk (S. Elgin, Ill./St. Charles North), who registered 10 kills with a  .318 hitting percentage and eight digs in the match.  Stacey Carroll (Ellicott City, Md./Mount Hebron) handed out 18 assists in two sets played.  Freshman Ashley Hargrove (Covington, Wash./Kentwood)  recorded eight kills and a solo block. 

 

The Tigers controlled the match, out-blocking UMBC, 16-8 and out-digging the Retrievers 47-26.  Towson finished with a .306 attack percentage with 47 kills in 98 total attempts.  The Retrievers hit .069 with 28 kills and 21 errors on 101 attempts. 

 

Towson senior Lindsey Hardin recorded 12 kills, on .474 hitting, and four blocks to lead the way while juniors Christina Grempler and Vanessa Happel each posted five blocks.  Senior April Hoffman, ranked 12th in the nation in service aces per game, registered five aces, along with nine kills and six digs.

 

UMBC returns to action at the Rutgers Invitational this weekend as they play Fairfield on Friday, Sept. 16 at 4 p.m.
