UMBC VOLLEYBALL RALLIES FOR 3-2 WIN OVER DELAWARE

Newark, Del. – The UMBC volleyball team (2-4) rallied from a two-game deficit to win the final three sets and defeat Delaware (2-5) by a final of 3-2 (24-30, 26-30, 30-24, 30-27, 15-9) on Tuesday night at Barbara Viera Court.  Katrina Carrick (San Diego, Calif./Morse) tallied 12 total blocks (four solo, eight assisted) to lead the Retrievers’ rally while Sarah Ball (Winnipeg, Canada/Sisler) tallied a double-double with 21 kills and 14 digs. 

 

UMBC, down two sets, turned the tide behind Carrick at the net as the sophomore middle blocker recorded seven blocks in the final three sets.  UMBC, who recorded 17 blocks as a team, forced six of the Blue Hens nine errors in set three with blocks and four out of 10 errors in game four with blocks. 

 

The Blue Hens, who recorded hitting percentages of .412 in game one and .310 in game two, struggled in the final three sets, recording a .085, .196 and .095 hitting percentages in games three thru five respectively.

 

Ball recorded her six double-double of the year as she has a double-double in every game played this season.  Ball had a .300 hitting percentage with six errors in 50 total attacks.

 

Stacey Carroll (Ellicott City, Md./Mount Hebron) recorded her fourth consecutive double-double with 50 assists and 12 digs.  Angela Anderson (Hermosa Beach, Calif./Bishop Montgomery) recorded 14 digs and a .308 hitting percentage while  Christine Skala (Hinsdale, Ill./South Hinsdale) finished with 22 digs, surpassing the 1,100 mark for her career.

 

Delaware, who was selected by the Colonial Athletic Association to finish second in the conference this season, was led by Colleen Walsh with 21 kills and Megan Welch with 59 assists.  The Blue Hens finished with a .213 hitting percentage while the Retrievers tallied a .233 hitting percentage.

 

UMBC returns to action this Saturday, Sept. 10 at home against St. Peter’s at 10 a.m. and LaSalle at 3 p.m.
