SARAH BALL NAMED TO GEORGE MASON PATRIOT INVITATIONAL ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM

Sarah Ball was named to the All-Tournament team at the George Mason Invitational.

Fairfax, Va. – UMBC freshman Sarah Ball (Winnipeg, Canada/Sisler) was named to the George Mason Patriot Invitational all-tournament team after tallying 4.62 kills per game in three matches.  Ball scored the most kills in a single match at the tournament, recording 24 kills against the invitational champion Cal Poly.

 

Ball recorded three double-doubles in the tournament and has a double-double in all five matches on the season for the Retrievers.  The rookie outside hitter against Loyola (Md.) tallied 19 kills and 17 digs to lead UMBC to their first win of the season.  Ball went on to record 24 kills and 14 digs against Cal Poly and 17 kills and 11 digs versus Texas Christian U. 

 

Ball finished the weekend with a .258 hitting percentage, 60 kills (4.62 kpg), four service aces and six total blocks.  Through five matches she has a 3.86 kpg average and 3.14 dpg average. 

 

Cal Poly’s Vanessa Gilliam was named the tournament MVP while teammates Chelsea Hayes and Kylie Atherstone were named to the all-tournament team. Other selections included TCU’s Anna Vaughn, Seton Hall’s Jessica King, George Mason’s Jaqueline Kohler and Loyola’s Becky Corb.

 

UMBC’s Stacey Carroll (Ellicott City, Md./Mount Hebron) set to single-match highs in the tournament with 59 assists and five service aces.

 

Ball and the Retrievers return to action at Delaware on Tuesday, Sept. 6 at 7 p.m.
