11/13/2004

Senior Julia Waclawiak recorded five aces on Senior Night.

Baltimore, Md. – UMBC Women’s Volleyball seniors Jocelyn Teoh (Puchong, Maylasia/Bukit Jalil Sports Academy) and Julia Waclawiak (San Antonio, Texas/Ronald Reagan) led the Retrievers (13-18, 4-10 America East) to a 3-0 (30-14, 30-20, 30-19) win over Hartford (5-27, 0-14 America East) on Saturday night at UMBC RAC Arena.  The win marked both the end to the Retrievers season and the end of the collegiate careers of Teoh and Waclawiak.  Teoh finished the match with five kills and 11 digs while Waclawiak added to her career total in career aces with five in the match and now holds sixth place all-time on the UMBC career charts with 168 service aces.

While UMBC bid farewell to their seniors, the crop of younger players flourished as  Julia Hood (Charlotte, N.C./West Charlotte) recorded a match-high 14 kills and Jessie Folk (S. Elgin, Ill./St. Charles North) added 11 kills with each hitting .450 or above in the match.  Megan Gross (Montclair, Va./Forest Park) finished with 33 assists as well.

The Retrievers, who earlier this season ranked in the top-30 in NCAA statistics for service aces per game, recorded 14 as a team with Waclawiak leading the way with five, followed by Emily Berman (Towson, Md./Towson) and Christine Skala (Hindsdale, Ill./South Hindsdale) with three each, Teoh with two and Gross with one ace.

Brianne Paulson led Hartford with 19 digs while Mary Frances Feldman finished with seven kills.
