Baltimore, Md. – The UMBC Retrievers (11-12, 2-4 America East) dealt Albany (18-5, 6-0 AE) their first set loss in conference play but dropped the final three sets as the Great Danes stayed perfected in league play with a 3-1 (29-31, 30-22, 30-23, 30-22) win over UMBC on Friday night at UMBC RAC Arena.
Rodriguez, who in 2002 set an NCAA record for service aces in a season, took over serving in the fourth set with the Retrievers looking poised to force a game five as they held a 19-13 advantaged before the side out. Rodriguez with the score 19-14, recorded seven service aces as the Great Danes scored 10-consecutive points with Rodriguez serving to take a 24-19 lead. In the remaining points Ashley Hunter recorded three kills as the Great Danes took the fourth set 30-22.
