RETRIEVER VOLLEYBALL CRUISES PAST HARTFORD IN THREE SETS

West Hartford, Conn. – The UMBC Women’s Volleyball team (11-10, 2-2 America East) defeated Hartford (5-17, 0-4 AE) in three sets (30-15, 30-21, 30-26) as they even their record in the America East and move back above the .500 mark.  The Retrievers were led by Jocelyn Toeh with 10 kills and Megan Gross with 32 assists.


 The Retrievers trailed in the first game by a margin of 7-2 before rallying to record the final 28 of 38 points in the set and take the game 30-15.  The Retrievers, who hit just .143 with 10 kills in the set, only allowed the Hawks five kills on 31 attacks. 

 

The Retrievers hitting percentage continued to climb in each game, scoring 14 kills in the second game with a .222 hitting percentage and 19 kill sin the third game with a .368 hitting percentage.

 

Britney Hodson returned to her home state of Connecticut and had a strong game for the Retrievers, dropping seven kills, and recording three total blocks.  The Retrievers controlled the net area recording eight team blocks.  Hodson, Gross and Emily Berman each had one solo block.


Leading the Hawks was Jennifer Monroy with 12 kills and Brianne Paulson with 23 assists.


The Retrievers are 4-3 during their eight-match road stretch, including 2-2 in the America East as they play their first five conference games on the road.  UMBC will finish their road swing at Northeastern on Saturday night at 7 p.m.
