RETRIEVER VOLLEYBALL FALLS TO MAINE, 3-1

Orono, Maine – The UMBC Women’s Volleyball team (10-10, 1-2 America East) split their weekend road trip, falling to Maine (11-7, 3-0 AE) on Saturday afternoon at Memorial Gymnasum.  The Retrievers lost in four sets 30-27, 16-30, 24-30, 18-30. 

Jocelyn Teoh (Punchong, Maylasia/Bukit Jalil Sports Academy) recorded a double-double for the second time in as many days with 10 kills and 14 digs.  Julia Hood (Charlotte, N.C./West Charlotte) led UMBC with a team-high 18 kills while Emily Berman (Towson, Md./Towson) recorded 16 kills. 

Junio Megan Gross (Montclair, Va./Forest Park) finished with 38 assists and Christine Skala (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale South) recorded 22 defensive digs. 

The Black Bears were led by Britney Howe with 18 kills and 52 assists by Shelly Seipp. 

The Retrievers captured the first set with 22 kills out of the 30 possible points, hitting .269 in the set.  The Retrievers, however, managed just 32 kills over the remaining three sets as the Black Bears, who hit .256 for the match as a team, were able to take the final three sets.

The Retrievers are 3-3 during their eight-match road stretch, including 1-2 in the America East as they play their first five conference games on the road.  UMBC will finish their road swing at Hartford and Northeastern next Friday and Saturday nights.
