UMBC VOLLEYBALL FALLS IN AE CONFERENCE OPENER TO STONY BROOK

Stony Brook, N.Y. – The UMBC Retrievers (8-9, 0-1 America East) lost in their America East Conference opener to Stony Brook (8-7, 1-0 AE) by a final of 3-0 (30-22, 30-22, 30-17) on Saturday afternoon. 

 

The Seawolves came out attacking in game 1, posting 20 kills while hitting .394 to open with a 30-22 victory. Both teams struggled in the second frame, with SB hitting .188 and UMBC just .038, as the Seawolves won 30-22. The home team bounced back to wrap things up in the third with a convincing 30-17 victory.

 

Maria Samilo led SB's offensive attack, posting a match-high 14 kills while hitting .370. Moran Sweany picked up 11 kills and 10 digs, while Julie Zub chipped in with 40 assists and 12 digs.

 

The Retrievers were led by Jocelyn Teoh's seven kills, Megan Gross with 21 assists and Christine Skala finishing with 10 digs.  Jessie Folk recorded five blocks as well for UMBC.

 

The Retrievers return to action on Sunday, Oct. 3 at 1 p.m. at Manhattan College.
