UMBC VOLLEYBALL SWEEPS MORGAN STATE, 3-0

Jessie Folk recorded six kills, six digs and two blocks to the Retrievers 3-0 win over Morgan State.

, Md. - The UMBC Volleyball team (5-4) swept cross-town foe Morgan State (3-8) in three games (30-24, 30-20, 30-16) on Wednesday Night at Hill Field House on the campus of Morgan State.  UMBC received big performances from freshman Emily Berman (Towson, Md./Towson) with 15 kills, Jocelyn Teoh (Puchong, Maylasia/Bukit Jalil Sports Academy) with 12 kills and Megan Gross (Montclair, Va./Forest Park) with 32 assists. 

The Retrievers held Morgan State to single digit kills as a team in all three games as the Retrievers racked up 47 digs, 10 by Teoh as she recorded her sixth double-double of the year (12 kills, 10 digs) and her third straight.  Teoh need just three kills to join the Retrievers’ 1,000 kill club.  Gross added eight digs in the match while four other Retrievers recorded six digs each.

The Retrieves hit .219 in game one with 15 kills, .270 in game two with 18 kills and .375 in the third and final game with 13 kills and just one error on 32 attacks.  For the game with Retrievers recorded a .287 hitting percentage with 46 kills, 17 errors on 101 total attacks. 

Berman, last weeks America East Player of the Week, finished the game with 15 kills, a .375 hitting percentage, three service aces and six digs.  Over the past five matches Berman has a 5.35 kills per game average and 13 service aces. 

Leading the way for the Bears, who hit .031 as a team with 23 kills in the match, was Korinne Lewis with 10 kills while Junel Jefferies finished with 19 assists.

UMBC heads to the Penn State Nittany Lion Invitational this Friday when they play host and No. 5 ranked Penn State at 7:30 p.m. followed by matches with West Virginia and Yale on Saturday.
