BERMAN’S 21 KILLS LEAD UMBC VOLLEYBALL PAST ST. FRANCIS (PA), 3-1

Emily Berman recorded 21 kills to pace UMBC to a 3-1 win over St. Francis (Pa.) on Tuesday night.

Baltimore, Md. - The UMBC Volleyball team (2-3) won their second consecutive match, defeating St. Francis (Pa.) (0-2), 3-1 (30-21, 30-20, 29-31, 30-22) on Tuesday night at UMBC RAC Arena.  The Retrievers won their home opener for the fourth-consecutive season with the win against the Red Flash as redshirted freshman Emily Berman (Towson, Md./Towson) led UMBC with 21 kills and a .463 hitting percentage.

 

Berman recorded five kills in game one as UMBC jumped out on top 18-9 at one point and cruised to the 30-21 win.  The Retrievers recorded 18 kills and hit .371 in the first game.  The Retrievers recorded 18 more kills in the second game as Jocelyn Teoh (Puchong, Maylasia/Bujit Jalil Sports Academy) recorded seven kills and freshman Marisa Gross (Montclair, Va./Forest Park) scored points on five kills. 

 

The Retrievers following their 30-20 game two victory looked poised to sweep the Red Flash in three games but were upended in game three as the Red Flash rallied from a 19-11 deficit to capture game three 31-29.  Anne Roosevelt for St. Francis (Pa.) led the charge, recording eight kills in the third game with a .357 hitting percentage.
