VOLLEYBALL SWEEPS NEC FOE CENTRAL CONNECTICUT
The host UMBC Retrievers blanked Central Connecticut State, 30-28, 3016, 30-26, Saturday afternoon in a Northeast Conference contest at the UMBC RAC Arena.UMBC hit a solid .333 from the floor and held the Blue Devils to a .163 hitting percentage.In the opening game, UMBC trailed most of the way but took their first lead at 24-23 on a kill by senior outside hitter Dana Cookson. Cooksonfinished the game with 4 kills and junior setter Heather Kerley added 4 kills and 2 service aces.In game two, Cookson hit .875 as she totaled 7 kills in 8 attempts. FR Jocelyn Teoh added 4 kills and 4 digs. UMBC hit .531 in the game.The Retrievers put the game away in the third and final game as Cookson added a team-high 5 kills and SO Jennifer Davis chipped in with 3 put-aways.Cookson finished with a match-high 16 kills and hit .652 (1 error, 23 attempts) for the match. Teoh added 9 kills and a match-high 13 digs.Kerley distributed a match-high 35 assists.Freshman middle blocker Jennifer Cote led CCSU with 14 kills (.375) and freshman hitter Shannon Verity added 10 kills.
