UMBC VOLLEYBALL DROPS AEC SEASON FINALE TO HARTFORD, 3-1

Hartford, Conn. - The UMBC women's volleyball team dropped its final America East Conference regular season game to Hartford by a score of 3-1 (30-26, 24-30, 30-21, 35-33) on Saturday night. The loss ends the Retrievers season with a record of 14-19 and 3-11 in the AEC while Hartford closes out their season at 10-20 and 2-12 in the AEC.
The Hawks set the tone in game one hitting .500 and scoring 20 kills to run out to a one set lead. The Retrievers quickly tied sets up in game two behind the big hitting of Jocelyn Teoh (Puchong, Malaysia/Bujit Jalil Sports Academy), who tied her season-high with 30 kills in the match, and Julia Hood (Charlotte, N.C./West Charlotte) with 15 kills in the match. The Retrievers took set two 30-24.
After hitting a mere .100 game two, the Hawks bounced back in game three with a .429 team hitting percentage, striking 18 kills with no errors to regain their set advantage at 2-1. The Hawks in game four then managed to edge the Retrievers with a 35-33 win to take the three set to one victory.
Teoh’s 30 kills in the match marked the second time this season she has reached 30 kills in a match. The other occasion occurred in the Villanova Invitational when Teoh struck 30 kills in a five-set win over Penn.
Also pacing the Retriever squad was Megan Gross (Montclair, Va./Forest Park) with 54 assists and 10 digs. Leading the Hawks was Stephanie Volckers with 25 kills Kristi Motil with 17 kills and Brianne Paulson with 63 assists.
