UMBC VOLLEYBALL FALLS IN THREE SETS TO NORTHEASTERN, 30-21, 30-27, 30-26

Baltimore, Md. - The UMBC Retrievers (14-13, 3-6 AEC) lost in America East volleyball action on Friday night to Northeastern (20-7, 8-1 AEC) at UMBC RAC Arena. With the win, the Huskies stay atop the AEC standings as UMBC remains in the sixth spot in chase of one of the top four spots that advance to the league tournament.
The Retrievers fell behind from the get-go in game one as Huskies raced out to a 13-4 lead, led by Larissa Adomat, who served the Huskies to 10-straight points, including two aces. The Huskies cruised to a 30-21 win, hitting .256 as a team in the set.
In the second set the Retrievers’ bid to tie the match up at a set a piece was ended when the Huskies rallied from a 16-10 deficit to tie the match at 22-22 and edge out the Retrievers 30-27.
After a short intermission the Huskies continued to stroke the ball well, hitting .326 in the third set as they held off a late challenge by the Retrievers to take the three set sweep with a 30-26 game three victory.
For the match, UMBC’s Jocelyn Teoh (Puchnong, Malaysia/Bujit Jalil Sports Complex) led all competitors with 16 kills and Retrievers’ sophomore Megan Gross (Mont Clair, Va./Forest Park) recorded 34 assists.
For Northeastern, Adomat finished with a team high 13 kills on .545 hitting percentage and teammate Kristine Ursillo notched 34 assists.
The Retrievers play in another critical AEC match when they host Albany on Saturday, Nov. 1 at 7 p.m.
