UMBC VOLLEYBALL FALLS TO ALBANY IN THREE SETS

Albany, N.Y. – The UMBC Retrievers (13-9, 2-2 AEC) lost in three sets to Albany (17-6, 2-2 AEC), 30-11, 30-20, 30-18 in America East volleyball action Friday night at University Gymnasium. The Retrievers were led by Jocelyn Teoh (Puchong, Malaysia/Bujit Jalil Sports Academy) with eight kills, while Christine Skala (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale South) tallied 11 digs.
The Great Danes hit .441 in game one to race out to a one set lead on the Retrievers. UMBC looked to tie the match up at one set a piece jumping ahead 17-13 before a string of aces by Eileen Nicole Rodriguez, who had 14 aces in the match, pulled the Great Danes ahead as they took the second set 30-20 and cruised in set three 30-18 for the match victory.
The Retrievers managed just 23 kills as a team while Albany scored 40 kills for a .267 hitting percentage.
UMBC returns to action as they finish their weekend road trip at Northeastern on Saturday night with a 7 p.m. start.
