Sarah Fries was named assistant volleyball coach at UMBC in June 2009.

“We are really happy to have Sarah join our program,” head coach Ian Blanchard said. “She came highly recommended from a former assistant here, Jen Harrison, and is very familiar with our systems, my methodology of teaching and the offensive and defensive systems that we like to incorporate, so there is not a lot of reteaching. She is meticulously well-organized, so that will help us become an even more efficient program.”

Fries finished her collegiate career with 1,249 kills, the fourth-most in Golden Eagle history. As a senior, she was named to the All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) First Team, Daktronics All-Regional First Team and AVCA All-Regional Honorable Mention Team. That same year, Fries led the Golden Eagles to a 28-6 record and an NCAA Division II Tournament first-round victory.
