Freeman Notches Seventh Double-Double, But Volleyball Falls to Stony Brook

Baltimore, Md. -- Freshman Carmen Freeman (Memphis, Tenn./St.Mary's) picked up her seventh double-double of the season with 11 kills and 13 digs, but the UMBC Volleyball team fell to visiting Stony Brook in straight sets (25-17, 25-21, 25-21) on Friday night at the RAC.

Paola Rojas (San Lorenzo, Puerto Rico/Notre Dame) also had 11 kills for UMBC (13-9, 5-3), while junior libero Kristin Watson (Bowie, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt) had a match-high 17 digs, and classmate Krytsia Negron (San Juan, Puerto Rico/Colegio Adianez) had a team-best 32 kills.

Ashley Ramos (Orlando, Fla./ Liberty/Monroe JC) had eight kills and three blocks, while Brooke Hayden (Mt.Airy, Md./Linganore) returned to action for the first time in five matches, chipping in seven digs.

Stony Brook (14-9, 4-3) hit .287 for the match, while holding the Retrievers to just a .156 hitting percentage.  

UMBC hits the road for the final time this season when it heads to upstate New York for two critical matches. The Retrievers face league-leading Albany on Friday at 7 p.m. before traveling to Binghamton for a 1 p.m. Sunday match.
