Boston, Mass. -- Redshirt sophomore Lauren Mortimer (Queen Anne's, Md./Queen Anne's) was named America East Player of the Week, while junior setter Krytsia Negron (San Juan, Puerto Rico/Colegio Adianez) and freshman outside hitter Carmen Freeman (Memphis, Tenn./St.Mary's) earned Setter and Rookie of the Week, respectively, the conference announced Tuesday morning.
Mortimer was sensational en route to leading UMBC (5-5) to a 4-0 record and a second consecutive Fairfield Inn & Suites Charm City Challenge title. The middle blocker was named MVP of the tournament, hit .329 and averaged 2.8 kills per set. She also had 14 kills and hit .478 in the tournament title match win over Loyola.
Negron averaged a conference-best 11.5 assists and added 2.5 digs per set as well as helpint the Retrievers to a league-best .230 hitting percentage.She also collected a pair of double-doubles and had a season-best 51 assists in the four-set win over Loyola in the tournament title match.
Freeman averaged 2.6 kills and 3.5 digs, while helping the UMBC defense hold teams to a league-best .125 hitting percentage against last week.
The Retrievers will travel to the Nation's capital this weekend for the GW Tournament.
