Volleyball Set to Battle for Baltimore at Fairfield Inn & Suites Charm City Challenge

Baltimore, MD – The UMBC Volleyball Team will make the short trek to local rival Loyola to take part in this weekend's Fairfield Inn & Suites Charm City Challenge.  The Retrievers will be taking on Morgan State and Presbyterian on Friday at 12:30 PM and 5:00 PM respectively, and the host Greyhounds on Saturday at 3:00 PM.

Scouting the Retrievers:

UMBC (2-5) is coming off a sweep of in-state rival Coppin State on Tuesday night in the team's home opener by scores of 25-16, 25-14, and 25-17.  The team received strong performances from juniors Krytsia Negron (San Juan, Puerto Rico/Colegio Adianez) and Kristin Watson (Bowie, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt), as well as senior Ashley Ramos (Orlando, Florida/Liberty/Monroe JC).  Negron had a match high 26 assists, Watson had 22 digs, and Ramos led the Retrievers with seven kills.

Scouting the Bears:

Morgan State (1-6) is coming off a loss against American on Tuesday night in which they lost in straight sets (25-9, 25-17, 25-13).  The Bears got their first victory on the year in a tournament last weekend with a victory over University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff.  Keana Browne leads the team in hitting at 31.8% on the season.

Scouting the Blue Hose:

Presbyterian (2-4) enters the tournament on a two-match win streak, with wins over Delaware State and North Carolina A&T in the Spartan-Aggie Invitational in Greensboro, N.C.  The victories were the team's first two of the season.  Daley Gosnell leads the team defensively with 95 digs.

Scouting the Greyhounds:

Host Loyola (Md.) (2-4) will be opening their home schedule this year with the tournament.  They are coming off a 2-1 weekend in Akron, Ohio with wins against host Akron and Tennessee Tech.  Molly Werts is hitting a team high percentage of 33.3% and has a team high 120 assists.

Inside the Matchups:

The Retrievers are 41-2 all-time against Morgan State and are 48-14-1 all-time against Loyola (Md.).  They will be playing Presbyterian for the first time in school history.
