DURHAM, N.H. – UMBC junior Hannah Schmidt matched her career-high with 19 kills and senior Mallory McIntyre (Winnipeg, Manitoba/St. Mary’s Academy) dished out 56 assists, but it was not enough as New Hampshire rallied to defeat the Retriever volleyball team in five sets (22-25, 25-17, 23-25, 25-29, 15-9), to win the America East title, Saturday afternoon at Lundholm Gymnasium.

BALTIMORE – The No. 2 seed UMBC volleyball team heads to its sixth consecutive America East Championships where the Retrievers will take on the No. 3 seed Albany Great Danes, Friday afternoon at University of New Hampshire’s Lundholm Gymnasium. UMBC and Albany will face off in the first semifinal of the day at 4:00 p.m. with the second semifinal between regular season champion UNH and Stony Brook set for a 7:00 p.m. start.

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – UMBC senior Ali Goc (Oshawa, Ontario/R.S. McLaughlin) recorded her team-leading 14th double-double of the season by registering ten kills and 13 digs, but it was not enough as the UMBC volleyball team lost to Hartford in three sets (25-21, 25-23, 27-25), Sunday afternoon in the season finale for both teams at the Sports Center.

Volleyball Hits the Road to Wrap Up 2013 Regular Season at Providence and Hartford
BALTIMORE – After falling to New Hampshire in three sets last Friday night, the UMBC volleyball team earned a three-set sweep over UMass Lowell Sunday afternoon to mathematically clinch a spot in their sixth-straight America East Tournament. UMBC now closes out its 2013 regular season schedule by taking on Providence on Friday, Nov. 15 at 7:00 p.m. and then heading to Connecticut to face Hartford at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 17.

The Retrievers swept the Terps in three sets, 26-24, 25-23, 29-27.

Volleyball Looks to Take Next Step in 2013
BALTIMORE – Although the UMBC volleyball team has made a school-record five consecutive trips to the America East Championships, the Retrievers are not content. Getting to the dance is nice, but the ultimate goal of winning the league and reaching the NCAA Tournament has still not been obtained since 1998. With this firmly in mind, the 2013 Retrievers look to take that next step and have built the team and program in this fashion.

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The UMBC volleyball team has been selected to finish third in the America East, receiving one first place vote, the conference office announced in its preseason poll on Thursday afternoon. Albany, last year’s regular season champion and winners of eight of the last nine tournaments, was tabbed as the favorite for the 2013 season.
