FAIRFAX, Va.—Two school records fell and three gold medals were won as the UMBC men’s and women’s track and field teams competed at the Mason Spring Invitational in Fairfax, Va. Saturday.

Senior Sara Parkinson (Chorley, England/Loughborough University) finished second in the women’s 1,500-meter run in a time of 4:31.85, breaking Cara Wettlaufer’s 2005 mark of 4:33.40. Fellow senior Michael Christmas (Invercargill, New Zealand/James Hargest College) finished eighth in the men’s 800-meter run in a time of 1:52.97, besting Izudin Mehmedovic’s 1:53.05, set in 2003.

On the women’s side, senior Britney Foreman (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) earned bronze in the 100-meter dash in a time of 12.30, while freshman Amanda Deller (Aberdeen, Md./Aberdeen) placed third in the shot put with a throw of 13.78m.

On the men’s side, senior Victor Gilreath (Catonsville, Md./Western Tech/Maryland) earned gold in the triple jump (14.84m) for the third consecutive week, and took home silver in the high jump (1.95m) as well. Senior Brian Pendleton (Aberdeen, Md./Harford Tech) finished third in the triple (13.59m) and fourth in the long (6.49m) jump events.

Sophomore Aaron Brooks (Upper Marlboro, Md./Dematha) won the shot put with a throw of 15.56m, while freshmen Evan Palmer (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenandoah) and Cameron McDearmon (Owings Mills, Md./Franklin) placed second in the discus (44.10m) and the hammer (46.54m), respectively.

The 4x100m relay team of seniors Justin Acker, Pendleton, Jason Powell (Bowie, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt) and Antonio Thomas (Columbia, Md./Long Reach) earned gold in a time of 42.00, while senior Camal Pugh (Clinton, Md./Oxon Hill) finished fifth in the 110-meter hurdles in a time of 14.73.

The Retrievers return to action next weekend at the Morgan State Legacy meet in Baltimore.
