CAMBRIDGE, Mass.—The UMBC men’s and women’s track and field teams took home three of the four first America East weekly awards of the season, as announced by the conference Tuesday. Seniors Adrian Arthur (Bowie, Md./Bowie) and Victor Gilreath (Catonsville, Md./Western Tech/Maryland) were named Male Track and Male Field Performers of the Week, respectively, while freshman Amanda Deller (Aberdeen, Md./Aberdeen) earned Female Field Performer of the Week honors.
Arthur finished third in the 60-meter dash at the Bison Opener to begin his senior season with the Retrievers. His time of 6.89 qualified him for the IC4A Championships in March. Arthur’s time was .01 seconds off of his time in the 60m at last year’s Bison Opener.
Last year’s America East high jump champion and the school record holder in the triple jump, Gilreath won the Bison Opener high jump with an IC4A-qualifying mark of 2.04m. He also placed second in the triple jump with a leap of 14.38m, which qualifies him for the IC4A Championships.
Deller claimed first in the shot put in her UMBC debut on Saturday. To take the title, Dellar threw an ECAC-qualifying distance of 13.68m. Her throw bests the mark of last year’s America East shot put champion by .02m.
