Baltimore, Md.—UMBC track and field will split this weekend, heading to Morgan State and Princeton on Friday and Saturday. The Retrievers are coming off a weekend that saw a trio of school records broken at Bucknell.

Last Time Out (Bucknell Outdoor Classic):

Jamal Cody took gold in the 400m hurdles, breaking the school record in the process with a time of 52.73. Not to be outdone was Alexios Prodanas who set a new school record in the hammer throw. Prodanas finished second with a toss of 62.32m (204'5").

Matthew Kane finished in fifth place in the 1,500m run. He crossed the tape in a time of 3:56.80. Other top finishers on the men's side were Urgy Eado in the 800m (fourth, 1:52.11) and Marcus Foster in the 400m hurdles (sixth, 54.72).

A trio of field athletes led UMBC, with Christian Kallenberg leading the way with a sixth place finish in the javelin with a toss of 59.28m (194'6"). Thomas Johnson and Jacob Netschke also earned top ten finishes in the triple jump and high jump. Johnson had a jump of 14.45m (47'5") to take sixth while Netschke was eighth in the high jump at 1.97m (6'5.5").

The women were led by the 4x100m relay team who took gold in the event. Mercedes Tillman, Amani Wallace, Kara and Erin Patrice finished in 46.77. 

Sophia Cologer led the pack with a new school record in the 3,000m steeplechase that puts her in contention for the NCAA Prelims later in May.

Cologer took second in the event with a time of 10:28.76, resetting the school record she set last year of 10:35.59. Cindy Alms also turned in a top ten finish, taking eighth in the 5,000m run with a time of 17:44.33.

Wallace and Tillman each earned top five finishes in different events. Wallace took fifth in the 400m dash (56.89) and Tillman took fourth in the 200m dash (25.21).

Other top female finishers included Madeleine Entwistle in the 400m hurdles (seventh, 1:03.29) and Funmi Daramola in the 200m dash (tenth, 25.56).

Conference Honors:

Sophomore Jamal Cody was named America East Male Track Performer of the Week this past week for his efforts last weekend at the Bucknell Outdoor Classic. Cody won the 400m hurdles with a new school record time of 52.73.

 The Retrievers will have their final tune-up before the America East Championships at the historic Penn Relays next weekend.
