CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – UMBC track and field seniors Deborah Adelola and Kirsten McGovern, as well as junior Eric Schuler, have been named to the 2014 America East Outdoor Track and Field All-Academic Team, the conference office announced on Tuesday morning.

PRINCETON, N.J. – UMBC junior Alisha Beeman broke the school record in the high jump while seniors Dennison Long and Andrew Smith earned individual victories as the Retriever track and field team wrapped up competition at the ECAC and IC4A Championships, Sunday at Princeton’s William Weaver Track and Field Stadium.

PRINCETON, N.J. – Senior Cody Mezebish lowered her own school record in the 800m run and two Retriever relay teams – the 4x100 and 4x400 squads – advanced to the event finals as the UMBC women’s track and field team competed on the second day of the ECAC Championships, Saturday at William Weaver Track and Field Stadium.

BALTIMORE – With the America East Championships in the books, top UMBC track and field athletes now set their sights on national and regional competitions, beginning with the ECAC and IC4A Championships this weekend at Princeton. The meet, which will be held at the William Weaver Track and Field Stadium, is scheduled to begin at 12:00 p.m. on Friday with the heptathlon and run through Sunday afternoon.

PHILADELPHIA – UMBC junior Alisha Beeman reset her own school record in the javelin on Friday evening, and then junior Thor Serafenas snapped his own record in the hammer throw, and the UMBC women’s 4x200m relay team broke the school record as well, Saturday at the 120th Penn Relays at Franklin Field.

Elite Retriever Athletes Head to Prestigious Penn Relays in Philadelphia
BALTIMORE – Looking to improve season-bests in attempt to reach the NCAA East Preliminaries in Jacksonville, Fla., elite Retriever athletes will head to Philadelphia for the prestigious Penn Relays at the University of Pennsylvania. The three-day meet at Franklin Field will begin on Thursday, April 24 and run through Saturday evening in the City of Brotherly Love.

UMBC Track and Field Makes Short Trip for Two-Day Morgan State Legacy Meet; Distance Runners Head to New Jersey for Larry Ellis Invitational
BALTIMORE – The bulk of the UMBC track and field team will stay close to home this weekend as the Retrievers make a short trip across Baltimore for the two-day Morgan State Legacy Meet at Hughes Stadium. The meet will begin on Friday afternoon with the javelin and hammer throw competitions before resuming on Saturday morning with the track events. In addition, members of the Retriever distance team will make their way up to Princeton for the Larry Ellis Invitational.

FAIRFAX, Va. – For the second straight week, senior Trae Proctor broke his own school record in the 110m hurdles, while senior Cody Mezebish and Andrew Smith both broke the UMBC 800m run records, and junior Thor Serafenas bettered his hammer throw record, as the Retriever track and field team competed Saturday at the Mason Spring Invitational.

Track and Field Makes Short Trip to Northern Virginia for Mason Spring Invitational on Saturday
BALTIMORE – A week after splitting up to compete at meets in Gainesville, Fla. and Williamsburg, Va., the UMBC track and field team makes the short trip to Northern Virginia to compete in the Mason Spring Invitational on Saturday in Fairfax, Va. The meet at George Mason Stadium is scheduled to begin on Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m. with the women’s hammer throw.

Track and Field Heading South to Compete at Pepsi Florida Relays and Colonial Relays
BALTIMORE – After hosting a rain-shortened Big Dawg Invitational last weekend at UMBC Stadium, the Retriever track and field program heads south on I-95 to compete at the Pepsi Florida Relays in Gainesville, Fla. and the Colonial Relays in Williamsburg, Va. Both meets will run from Friday, April 4 through the evening of Saturday, April 5.

UMBC Track and Field Hosts Big Dawg Invitational on Saturday
BALTIMORE – For the second consecutive season, the UMBC track and field team will host the Big Dawg Invitational at UMBC Stadium. The meet will kick-off on Saturday, March 29 with the hammer throw competition at 10:00 a.m., adjacent to the UMBC Softball Stadium. The first event on the track will be the 3,000m steeplechase which is scheduled to begin at 10:45 a.m.

BALTIMORE – The 2014 Big Dawg Invitational, which will be hosted by the UMBC track and field program on Saturday, March 29 at UMBC Stadium, will be streamed live, free-of-charge on UMBCRetrievers.tv, courtesy of the America East Digital Network. The coverage, which will feature commentary, multiple camera angles, and replay, will begin at 10:30 a.m. and wrap up at 2:30 p.m.

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – A trio of UMBC track and field athletes have earned America East Performer of the Week awards after opening the outdoor season at the FSU Relays, the conference office announced on Tuesday afternoon. Senior Dennison Long (Greenbelt, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt/FIU) and sophomore Vincent Rentzsch (Oranienburg, Germany/Elite Sportschule Potsdam) swept the men's awards while junior Alisha Beeman (Bridgeport, Conn./Bunnell/Hartford) garnered the Women's Field Performer of the Week award.

LANDOVER, Md. – UMBC junior Alisha Beeman (Bridgeport, Conn./Bunnell/Hartford) cleared a new personal-best of 1.71m (5’0.75”) in the high jump to break the UMBC school record as the UMBC track and field team competed at the Terrapin Invitational at the Prince George’s Sports and Learning Complex.

Track and Field Set to Stay In-State for Navy Invitational and Terrapin Invitational on Saturday
BALTIMORE – Following two meets in Pennsylvania to start the season, the UMBC track and field teams will stay in Maryland this weekend, but split up, with athletes competing at the Navy Invitational and the Terrapin Invitational on Saturday. The Navy meet will take place at the Wesley A. Brown Field House in Annapolis while the Terrapin meet will be held at the Prince George’s Sports and Learning Complex in Landover, Md., adjacent to FedEx Field.

Track and Field Alum Borel Named Trinidad and Tobago Female Athlete of the Year; Long Listed Among Top-Ten in 200m Dash by IAAF
PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad and Tobago – Former UMBC track and field athlete and NCAA champion Cleopatra Borel was named the National Association of Athletics Administrations (NAAA) of Trinidad and Tobago Female Athlete of the Year, Sunday evening at the organization’s annual awards ceremony. In addition, Borel earned the “Women Open Field” award.
