CAMBRIDGE, MASS. – UMBC track and field junior Chowan Brightful (New Market, Md./Linganore) was named the America East Female Field Performer of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday.  The award comes after Brightful broke the UMBC school-record in the high jump at last weekend's Bison Opener at Bucknell University.

Brightful earned her first ever weekly conference award by setting a new school mark with her jump of 1.7m (5'7") at the season-opening meet in Lewisburg, Pa.  The previous mark had been set at 1.69m (5'6.5") back in 2007 by Sara Allen.

The indoor track and field team has the remainder of the 2011 calendar year off from competition before they head to State College, Pa. for the Penn State Relays on Jan. 7.
